God is expecting us to be very careful of all we hear, see, think, and do. Recently I heard a statement that got my attention and I started thinking on that statement. I was thinking how good it sounded and how much sense it made. Suddenly there came a quickening in my spirit and I had a sense about me that said, be careful what you hear. Make sure that everything lines up with my Word. What you hear is not always the truth but deception to get you off track. That awakening caused me to realize that everything we do everything we think and everything we say needs to be filtered through the Word of God.
We need discernment as our filter. When you are speaking with someone and something doesn’t seem quite right, then it probably isn’t. God puts that filter inside of us and He expects us to use it. That filter has a name and the name is the Holy Spirit. God sent the Holy Spirit as a helper for us to do the right things and to do the things of God. In John 14:26 Jesus said to His disciples, but the Helper, the Holy Spirit who my Father will send will teach you all things (paraphrase). One of those things is how to listen to Him and make sure that you do not get lead astray. The things of the enemy comes subtlety, without our conscience being aware of anything different. The bible says that the enemy will come looking to see who he can devour. (1Peter 5:8) It is with simple statements that sound good but if it does not line up with the Word of God then let it fall to the ground. We are to discern [To see or understand the difference; to make distinction; as, to discern between good and evil, truth and falsehood.] all that we hear, see or come in contact with. Don’t allow yourself to be taken in by the enemy’s schemes and trickery. We all fall prey to the subtlety of the enemy but when we have our discernment working and we are making sure that what we hear aligns with the bible we are able to drop the false in order to receive the truth. There is a kids song that puts into perspective the truth of discernment and it goes like this, be careful little ears what you hear, oh be careful little ears what you hear. For the Father up above is looking down with love, so, be careful little ears what you hear. The song also mentions eyes and feet. With everything that is within us we must be vigilant to our surrounding and those things that come at us on a daily basis. We need to be reading the bible constantly and praying so as to be prepared when the enemy comes to attack us with subtle words. Those words can sneak in and before we know it things are not going along as well as they should, or you are not spending the time in church like you were. Whatever the case may be we need to open our spiritual senses up to the Lord and allow Him access to our heart in order to battle the enemy. You cannot fight the enemy on your own. You need the guidance of Christ in your life to assure victory in your life. We all go through battles and it is those battles that end up making us stronger and more secure in the Lord. Allowing Christ into our lives will not assure we don’t have battles but is does assure that when that battle is over we are the victors and not the enemy. If you are struggling today and are seeking the help of the Lord to help you through it, be assured that He has heard your cry and for you the battle has come to an end. God promised that He would never leave us nor forsake us and when we allow Him to rule in our lives we become stronger and the battles become shorter because we have a weapon that the enemy cannot defeat. The next time you are listening to a program or to someone speaking and there is a feeling in you that says this is not right, it is probably not and that feeling is a check sent by the Holy Spirit to let you know that your discernment is operating correctly. In all things seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33)
