Other than Jesus, who is your hero? Let me share with you who my hero is and why.
My hero is a biblical character who goes by the name of Peter. As I look at my life, I have the same traits as Peter. He was a fisherman and I love to fish. He was unschooled as described in Acts 4;13, and though I have a college degree, I still liken myself to his simple way of life. Peter would shoot from the hip with is words and actions, as he did in the Garden when he cut off the ear of the guard (John 18:10), many times I speak and act before, I think. So many likenesses, I respect the Apostle Peter. Now for the real reason why Peter is my hero. Peter had simple faith as do I. I believe what God tells me with no questions asked. Whatever is in the Bible, is total truth and I don’t question it. Peter had great faith in Jesus to a point which was demonstrated on the Sea of Galilee, when in a storm Jesus called to Peter to get out of the boat and come to him. With no questions asked, Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water. It wasn’t until he took his eyes off Jesus that he began to sink. (Matthew 14:22-33) Though I have not walked on the water, I have had my eye on Jesus and when I looked away and took my eyes off him, I would turn away. One of the greatest things that happened in the life of Peter that I have prayed would happen to me to have such great faith is found in Acts 5:15-16. People would bring their sick into the streets in the hopes that Peter would pass by and his shadow would heal them. My thoughts and prayers have always been that I would walk into a store and people would get healed four rows over. Peter knew the power of Jesus though Jesus had ascended into heaven. As he and John walked down the street, a crippled beggar was asking for money. When Peter seen him, he went to him and told him, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” (Acts 3:6) I want to know that power in my life as to not doubt what I see around me and only see Jesus in Heaven and do the very same things that Peter did. There are far greater people out there who have probably done more than Peter, but with everything that went on in Peter’s life, and the way he went about getting things done in his own simple way, Peter is my hero!
