Youth Conference in December of 1997
It was December 1997; we were heading to Sierra Bullones to put on a national youth conference. We were told that there would be around a hundred young people attending the conference. As we arrived at the sight where the conference was to be held, we were met by some other pastors and they were telling us that they needed more money to buy more food for all of the people. The pastor who was in charge of our team told them that this was going to be a time of two fish and five loafs and that he was not going to give them any more money and that we would have to make do with what we had. They told us that instead of the one hundred young people who were going to attend there were actually three hundred plus and they were still coming. Our team leader told them that it made no difference because he was still not going to give them more money and that we were indeed going to trust God for all that we needed.
As our team prepared for the conference, we began to talk about all of the gifts we had brought to hand out on Christmas day to the young people. We had only brought enough gifts for each person and we had planned on only one hundred so our faith had to be stretched to believe that God would multiply all that we had. We laid hands on our gifts and also prayed that our food would go far beyond what we had allowed.
The conference was a three day conference and the final count was three hundred and fifty young people. Some had traveled for over twelve hours by palm boat to get there and then had to walk several miles to get to the site where the conference was taking place. Every day the people who were taking care of the meals were amazed at how much food we had and everyone was getting to eat as much as they wanted. Then came December 25th and it was time to give out gifts. We gathered everyone in the central area of our compound and told them that we had a gift for each one of them. We began to hand out the gifts and as we completed the first round we went around again. Each person had received two gifts and we also gave gifts to the crew who waited upon us for the three days. The amazing thing about the gifts and the food was as we were preparing to leave, we were able to give the local pastor a very big box of gifts as well as three big boxes of food. God had supplied in abundance as we were faithful to depend upon him to multiply.
