Father show me how to be more patient, show me how to be a better person. These are things we should be seeking in our prayer life. All too often we fall short of asking God to do things in our life that will really and forever change our life. We petition God that if it is in His will can you make me but, we never ask Him to show me. We expect God just to do it and for some that is all they know. For others it has really never crossed their minds to ask Him to show them.
I am not condemning anyone because they only ask God to do it for them; I have fallen into that very same trap and never considered to have God show me. When you stop to think about it that is something for most of us gives us a sense of accomplishment. In our everyday lives we are always striving to have that feeling and when we begin to ask God to show us we get there. We pray and pray that God will change our lives and make us better people. That He will change us to be more compassionate or that He will change the way we look and treat others and give us grace. We should be asking for Him to show us. Show me Lord How to love others the way you love me. Show me Lord How to show grace to others the same way that give me grace. Do these sound familiar? They are requests that have certainly changed the way I come to God to seek those changes in me. We need to be God centered and not me centered. More things begin to change in our lives when we put God above everything else. When we seek how He can show us how to do something or how He can teach us how to be. Our lives should have these priorities, God first, Spouse second, family third, and then everything else below that. We need to get our priorities straight and God can show us how to do that. He will not just put that inside of us. He has given us a free will and that will needs to conform to the ways of God in order for us to obtain that what we seek. Everyone who asks receives, everyone who seeks finds, and everyone who knocks the door will be open (paraphrase) from Matthew 7:8. Let us open our request to God to include show me how to and then let’s put what He shows us into practice in our lives and change the world. We can do all things through Him who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13) and why not set out to change the world. He is there with us and He did promise that He would never leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). We have the power inside of us to change and the only thing requires is to ask God to show us how. My prayer is for us to really ask God for the most important thing and that is Father show us how to be like you. God Bless and have a very blessed day.

Hebrews 11:1 says now faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. (MKJV) We spend most of our every day life seeking things for our life and in our life. We are not sure how we will accomplish it but somehow we know that God will provide it, the substance of things hoped for. Then even though we can't see God with our physical eyes, something happens and what we have hoped would happen in our life does, the evidence of things not seen.
We question God as to why we did not get what we were hoping for in our lives and we never once stop to think that maybe there is something more or even something better. God answers our prayers in different ways. He may just say yes and it happens immediately. He may answer no because there is something better. Or, He may make us wait because there is something even greater and beyond anything we could ever imagine or dream of. Whatever the answer is God is going to give us what we need and not what we want. We too often get the two mixed up and feel that what we really want is what we need. God definitely knows the difference and we really need to be thankful for what we do get. There are things we can do to increase our faith. Think about it! We ask God for a change in our lives and what seems to be immediately our life changes. When our life changes our faith increases. We seek God for direction in our lives, and though it may not happen overnight it happens and we know that we know we are on the right path heading in the right direction. Once again our faith is increased. It is at this point that we see we can increase our faith. We see that when we keep our lives before God and hope for changes God grants our requests and low and behold our faith increases yet again.. Where we seem to go astray is when we think that there is nothing that our faith can't bring us even if it is down to our possessions or our finances. Our faith is not a toy, it is our experience with God Almighty and our life with Him. It is not what we can achieve if we have the faith to get it, there lies the problem. I recently had a conversation with a person that told me God did not want him to be poor and therefore he was believing that God was going to make him wealthy. He said that he should be able to buy anything that he wanted without the fear of the money. I had to agree with him to a point, God does not want for us to be poor, but He is not going to make us wealthy because He knows our hearts and He also knows that our attitude toward the proper faith is somewhat lacking. I let him know that our faith is to be in God and not in the things of this world. The bible tells us that we need to put our treasure in heaven where rust and decay cannot get to it (paraphrase) Like I said earlier, our faith is not a toy to be played with and get upset with because we did not get what we were hoping for. We need to focus our lives on Jesus Christ and keep our eyes focused on Him. If what we are hoping for is not here or coming then we need to increase our faith and understand that maybe the reason it is not is because God has something even greater for us. We need to believe in the unseen because it is the unseen is where our faith is increased. We may not understand why things happen the way they do but it is not for us to understand it is for us to believe in God and trust in Him. We all know that God has changed our lives in one way or another and if we will increase our faith I am sure we will see even greater things happening in our life. Like the saying says, let go and let God, trust in Him and there is no way you could ever go wrong. Trust in Him and you will see some of the most awesome things happen in your life. All things are possible for us if we will only believe and put all of our faith in Jesus Christ. God Bless You all This morning at church, our pastor’s wife got up and had a word of exhortation. The word was to those feeling they were a disappointment to others, to their family or themselves. It is amazing how God speaks to you when you least expect it and it is do dead on. That happened to me this morning.
I have gone through most of my life with others telling me how disappointed in me they were. When that is what you always hear you begin to question yourself. Though you always try to block out those thoughts it always seems to make its way back in. For me I have always thought that I was a disappointment especially to my family which was a lie of the devil as well as a big disappointment to God again another lie from the devil. I don’t care who you are or what you do, everyone is prone to be attacked by these lies. I am a pastor and yet I struggle like everyone else. I still have thoughts and even though I know God has my back they still creep in. I wrote a book called I See God In It and I tell the story of my life and the hell that I went through. This morning hit me very hard and knew that I knew God was speaking directly to me and assuring me that He would be there and that I indeed was not a disappointment. He spoke to my heart in a way that assured me that I was more than I was giving myself credit for. After a lot of focusing on Him and paying no attention to what else was going on I felt a breakthrough in my spirit. I left church knowing that I am doing everything that God puts in my path and that I am doing it exactly the way He wants me to and after speaking to my wife she said that I don’t disappoint her. The devil is a liar and has no place in our lives. If you are feeling that you are a disappointment then I want you to know that you are not. It is a lie from the pit of hell and I ask Jesus to help you through and to speak into your heart how much you are loved and how proud He is of you. We deserve more in our lives than to be degraded by the devil. The time is now for us to take a stand and to allow God to move in our life. Now is the time for us to speak the words of Jesus and say, “get thee behind me Satan”. Pray with me, Father I ask you to forgive me for the thoughts I have had. I pray that you will restore my mind and replace my thoughts with nothing but you. Father I know that I stumble and fall, but I will pick myself up and dust myself off and continue to run the race you have put before me. I will not give up and I will always look to you for my help and my support. I pray these things in the Name of Jesus. Amen! Remember God is so very proud of you and it really does not matter what the devil thinks. You can accomplish more in one hour with God than you can in a lifetime without Him. Let me take you down a path that will prove this statement beyond anything we could imagine.
I will have to take you down my path as I have no idea what type of path you are on or have been. My path starts out when I was young and continued to the age of forty three. Though I don’t remember a lot of my younger life, I do remember things and times from the age of sixteen on. Times that I sat out to accomplish who knows what. I had no idea what I wanted to accomplish in my life and even if I did I had no idea how I was going to get there. Sound a little familiar? As we go through life we place our focus on material things and never once give thought to the spiritual. Our complete goal in life is to be successful, have everything that money can buy and to be noticed by others. We always felt that having all of these things was going to make us happy. Ok now I have touched a nerve and some are wondering how on earth does he know about my life? I don’t, but I do know that if I thought about it there were others that felt the same way or had the same thoughts. I wanted to accomplish all I could in my life so that when I got old I didn’t have to worry. Well like Dr. Phil would say, “How’s that working for you?” Here it is several years later and those aspiring goals and things I hoped I would accomplish are still just a memory and that has taken me over fifty years. There have been some things that I have been fortunate to accomplish but nothing like I had dreamed of or thought of. One day the Lord came into my life and the game and the rules all changed. I began to see things I could accomplish and they became a reality. One of the biggest things for me that I had originally set out to accomplish for myself was to be important, to have people notice me. After finding Jesus in my life, that really didn’t seem like a priority anymore. I am still not famous, I don’t have people telling me how important I am and to be honest I really don’t care if they notice me or not. I began to accomplish the little things in life, like showing compassion to others, or not be so angry all the time. The only person that I had to impress was God and in spite of myself He loves me anyway. I may not be successful in most people’s eyes and according to their standards, but I am a great success in God’s eyes. Though I never in my wildest dream ever thought I would be where I am today based on my past, I am very successful. I get the opportunity to travel to distant lands and minister the Word of God to those who are desperate for the supernatural. I get to go into places that most would not even go and tell people how much Jesus loves them. It did not take me fifty years to accomplish that, it was done by the Word of God and in one hour. I said yes to Jesus and the next thing I knew things were changing. In one hour I accomplished more than I ever thought possible. In one hour with God I went from having no idea what I was going to do let alone know how I was going to do it to reaching out and speaking to those He lead me to. That is my path and if I were to venture a guess, my path is probably very similar to yours. Some of you may still be struggling with trying to accomplish some feat some goal and you don’t have Jesus on your side? Let me remind you of the title, I can accomplish more in one hour with God than I can in a lifetime without Him. To this point in life you have tried to do everything in your own power and in your own way and for some things you have managed to accomplish but wow it took you for what you thought was an eternity. There are many things you may still have to try to accomplish so why not try accomplishing them with the help of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ? I am not the only one who gave up one day and asked Jesus into my heart only to find out how true that really was there are literally thousands of people who have done the exact same thing. Come and join our ranks and let Jesus show you the way and then you will really see what accomplishments you will get done. If you don’t know Jesus and want to know Him, right now right where you are ask Him to come into your life. Tell him you accept Him as your Lord and Savior and ask Him to forgive you. This may seem simple to accomplish but it is highly effective in your life. You don’t have to use long drawn out words. There is power in the name of Jesus and He will show you just how much you can accomplish in just one hour with Him. God Bless You Now that I am older I can look back on my life and I really start to realize what a difficult person I was. If not for God, I have no idea where I would be. God became my life when I reached the lowest point in my life and had absolutely nowhere else to turn.
It is always amazing when in a person’s life God shows up and gets involved. Things begin to change and life becomes more enjoyable. You start to see things in a totally different light and those you had problems with suddenly begin to become a part of your life. You change and though you don’t understand how or why you start to like the way things are beginning to go. You begin to wonder why you never did this before but the real answer is that you never got this low before. You never got to that point in your life that you had no place to turn, but now God is giving you a way to change and make your life better. When God is involved things will never be the same again. God is the source of everything in our life but sometimes it takes us a long time to understand that. We don’t realize how important God is to us until almost the last moment. I know this and can tell you that He showed up exactly at the right time. Isaiah 55:8 says, for my ways are not your ways nor are my thoughts your thoughts declares the Lord. He does not operate on our schedule nor does he think the same way we do. His schedule is one of health, happiness and eternal life where we have no idea what we are doing and there is absolutely we can do for ourselves. Matthew 19:26 states, for man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible, apart from that we are totally lost with no way out and on a path heading straight into destruction. If God is involved in your life you need to constantly give Him the praise and the glory. If He isn’t involved you really need to examine your life and take a long close look at it. Though you may think your life is going along just fine, you will be totally surprised to find out that it is not as great as you thought. We can’t have a real life without Jesus, because inside all of us is that nagging thought of will I go to heaven. You can’t enter into heaven without a relationship with Jesus. You can do all of the good in the world but that will not get you into heaven. You can be the best person there ever was, but without accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior you are just as lost as that person who goes out and commits murder. In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me”. You must have a relationship with Jesus or nothing. The awesome thing about this is it is not too late. If you don’t know Jesus and you are reading this then right now is your opportunity to surrender to Him. No one knows when Jesus is going to return and this very moment may be all we have. The bible says that when the trumpet sounds it is all over (paraphrase). There will never be another chance to receive Jesus. Choose right now to serve Jesus and your life will never be the same. Allow God to get involved and it will be the best thing that ever happened to you. God Bless You In Matthew 14:24-31, the story tells us how the disciples were on the water and a storm was raging. As they looked out they saw what seemed to be to them a ghost. Jesus told them not to fear because it was him. Peter then said to Jesus if it was indeed you (Jesus) then ask him (Peter) to come to him on the water. Jesus told Peter COME. So Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water. When Peter noticed the waves crashing around him, he became frightened and began to sink. Jesus told Peter that he had little faith and then reached down and rescued him.
There is a very large importance for us in these scriptures on why we should keep our eyes on Jesus. The most important of lessons to learn is that if we will keep our eyes focused on Jesus we can walk on water. If you noticed in the scripture, as Peter got out of the boat he began to walk on the water. It was not until he noticed his surroundings that he began to sink. In other words he took his eyes off of Jesus and put them on his surroundings. The importance to us is that when we take our eyes off of Jesus we too begin to sink. There are people today who know God and yet they are struggling with the things of this life. Why? Let me attempt to answer with what I understand of the scriptures and give you my interpretation. If you notice in your life when you are living each and every moment for Jesus things seem to be going along great. Then as our busyness begins to creep into our time with Jesus there is a change in our happiness and we feel like we are sinking. God promised that He would never leave us or forsake us, but He did not promise that we would not have the trials of life and that He would actually allow some things in our life to teach us about Him and His importance to us. It is when we get so wrapped up in our everyday life that God intervenes and allows some things to come our way such as that sinking feeling. The example of Peter is exactly what our life becomes. We get out of the boat and make that decision to follow Jesus with everything that is within us and then, we notice something in the world around us and before we know it we begin to go down. I know people today who have made a decision (for whatever reason) to take their eyes totally off of Jesus and place them totally in the world. They have chosen to follow other idols (boats, cars, travel etc.) and have totally taken their eyes off of Jesus. They are sinking and they have no idea why. Peter all over again took his eyes off of Jesus and began to sink. There are those whose lives are being seriously affected because they have turned from Jesus. They have health issues or they are struggling with their finances and for whatever reasons don’t seem to understand the sinking concept. If you take your eyes off of Jesus, you will sink but if you keep your eyes focused on Him you will be able to walk on water. I am not saying that is the case in every situation, but it definitely is a determining factor in the situation. God is not punishing them but allowing things to happen so that their eyes may be opened or that they might turn back and get their focus where it belongs and that is on Jesus. I wish I could say that I keep my eyes on Jesus 24/7, but then I would sin and tell a lie. I struggle with this principle exactly the same way as Peter. I am going along fantastic and everything is going my way and then boom, I see the storm around me and down I go. If there was a way I could do this don’t you know that I would? The awesome thing about it is that Jesus reaches out and lifts us up and rescues us. He is not going to let us drown but He will definitely get our attention. We will swallow just a little bit of water, but when we come to our senses we will refocus our attention. The bible says that if you have the faith of a mustard seed Matthew 17:20, we can speak to our mountain and tell it to move from here to there and it must move. Nothing will be impossible for us. It is the mustard seed faith that we need to grasp ahold of. That faith that if we keep our focus on Jesus there is nothing we can’t do. That faith if we keep our eyes glued on Him we will be able to face any circumstance in our lives with the assurance that Jesus in there and He has everything in His control, something I like to call Walk on Water faith. We will walk on water for a short distance then we will sink down and have to have Jesus rescue us, but His love for us is so far greater than we could ever understand that He will be there and lift us up so we can walk on water again and again. Don’t give up because you could not keep your focus on Jesus. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and return your focus and then things will become brighter and you will once again be walking on the water.
