Hebrews 11:1-3
Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. Faith always has been the mark of God's servants, from the beginning of the world. Where the principle is planted by the regenerating Spirit of God, it will cause the truth to be received, concerning justification by the sufferings and merits of Christ. And the same things that are the object of our hope are the object of our faith. It is a firm persuasion and expectation, that God will perform all he has promised to us in Christ. This persuasion gives the soul to enjoy those things now; it gives them a subsistence or reality in the soul, by the first-fruits and foretastes of them. Faith proves to the mind, the reality of things that cannot be seen by the bodily eye. It is a full approval of all God has revealed, as holy, just, and good. This view of faith is explained by many examples of persons in former times, who obtained a good report, or an honorable character in the word of God. Faith was the principle of their holy obedience, remarkable services, and patient sufferings. The Bible gives the truest and exact account of the origin of all things, and we are to believe it, and not to wrest the Scripture account of the creation, because it does not suit with the differing fancies of men. All that we see of the works of creation were brought into being by the command of God. If we look with our human eyes we are going to miss the glory of God. We by faith need to trust in him who has done all things since the beginning of time. If we have faith in Christ we will be able to overcome the things that are tearing at our very being. We will be delivered from what the world deems to destroy us and we will be confident that God Almighty is on the throne and we will have peace and comfort. We will be able to move mountains, so live in faith and know that he is God. It will be easy and all you have to do is to trust in him. God loves us far more that we will ever know and his plans are for us to prosper us and not to be destroyed. Have faith in God and you will see for yourself through your spirit and not through your mind or your human eyes.

It is amazing to me how consumed with everyday things we can become. Inside you know that God has promised to make a way where there seems to be no way, but we still try to accomplish everything on our own. Maybe it is because before we became Christians we had no one else to rely on but ourselves or we adopted and entertained the thought that we don’t need anyone but ourselves. Who knows but I am finding out, I know nothing and there is no way I can do it by myself.
I don’t remember where the title of this message comes from, but it has more truth than one realizes. After spending most of my life trying to get things done the only thing I really obtained was getting further behind. It was not until I met Jesus that most things began to change. Notice I said most things. I say that because I still have the tendency to try it on my own. Even though it does not work out I still try. God has made a fantastic offer to us and if we will just get over ourselves we will see how much we can really accomplish with Him. He has made us an offer we can’t refuse or that we shouldn’t refuse. Just imagine how many times we have taken two steps forward and one step back never seeming to get anywhere when all along there was a path that not only would get us there but get us there in a fraction of the time. If you are anything like me (and I hope you’re not) sometimes it takes a board alongside of the head to get my attention and get my eyes opened to how much more I can accomplish with God. As for me I am a slow learner but I do learn. I could tell by watching the History Channel’s the Bible on the final night how a light went off in the minds of the disciples when the Holy Spirit entered into them and they had a new life knowing how much more they could accomplish having God living inside of them. As you watch their struggles you notice a lot of yourself in them and then in the twinkling of an eye God touches them and they know. They know that they can accomplish more than they could ever have imagined without Him. We know these things as well. God wants to do more in us than we could ever imagine or even dream the only thing He is looking for is for us to realize it ourselves and surrender to Him. God has done so much for us and I for one have learned that I can accomplish more in one hour with Him then I ever could have done on my own without Him. God Bless You Steve and Lorraine |
